BACARDI, a Kim Holman Rummer Class design was built by Uphams boatyard in Brixham. Holman said he designed the Rummers as easy to handle fast cruisers and in 1959 Yachting World wrote ”Rummers’ reduced draft and iron keel gain for her the shallow draft allowance under the RORC rule. Her draft, however is only a few inches less than was once, not so long ago, considered the average for a boat of her size. Her ballast ratio is more than 40 per cent, and this, combined with a waterline length / beam ratio of 2.5, should produce a boat of uncommon stiffness and power.....” Meanwhile Yachting Monthly wrote: “There is a sure touch in the drafting of the hull lines, which are decisive and confident with perfect harmony throughout the work of a skilful draughtsman...”

BACARDI was build for Sir William Hannaford who owned her until 1976 when she was sold to a Danish buyer. Sold on again - always in Denmark, the present owners bought her in 1993 and have sailed around 1000 nm every year in Scandinavian waters - the North Sea, Skagerak, Kattegat and The Baltic. For the last 10 years the boat has been ashore under cover from October to May every winter - and well maintained. Originally with anodised alloy masts, in 1988 a former owner had new masts made in spruce – the main keel stepped - by the Walsted boatyard in Thurø. In 1996 the engine was replaced with Mitsubishi diesel, and in 1998 the keel bolts were replaced with Niro steel bolts - also carried out by Walsteds. She now lies at Doverodde near the great fishing harbour Thyborøn in the western part of the Limfjorden - west coast of Jutland.
The boat is well fitted out below with four berths. Approached from the cockpit by sliding hatch to the sole of a higher dog house area there are quarter berths in starboard and port side. Half bulkhead to port side galley with stainless steel sink and Plastimo Atlantic calor gas cooker and half bulkhead to starboard chart table. The main cabin saloon has 2 berths and lockers port and starboard and a central folding teak table. Forward of the main cabin beside the keel stepped main mast is placed a Refleks cabin heater. Forward of the bulkhead, there is the head on port side and a hanging locker to starboard. The fore peak currently used for stowage of sails, ropes etc does have space for a berth.
