COMMENTAIRES DU COURTIER

Robert Clark was noted for the designs of numerous racing yachts and while the 2nd World War interrupted his designing career - albeit he spent those years at the Admiralty; by the 60s and maybe in response to the constraints of the new racing rules, he had turned his hand more to yachts for cruising. Nevertheless he never lost his eye for fair lines and his designs continued to achieve impressive results. DESERET has most of her original detail above and below deck giving her a simple beauty and is certainly a sailor’s boat. She is well priced in our opinion.

History

DESERET was designed by Robert Clark as one of four boats to the same basic design and built by Berthon Boat Co. of Lymington in 1962. She is design No. 223 and comes with the original specification and drawings by Robert Clark Ltd, dated June 1961, for J.L. Gardner Esq (in pencil replaced by T.W. Howard Esq.) In April 1964 she was sold through Robert Clark Ltd to Mr. Hermann Haltermann of Hamburg, Germany. Available is the survey by Lloyds, executed in 1964, where she was classed and entered in the Yacht Register as 100 A1. Mr Haltermann renamed her VINGA III and had her rated by both the RORC and the Deutschen Segler-Verbandes in 1965 (documentation available) She was sold to Mr. & Mrs. Wieselmann, also of Hamburg, from whom the current owners bought the yacht in 2004.
